SpringFest announces artists for pregame festivities

SpringFest organizers announced Wednesday the local bands that will play at the April 10 end-of-the-year celebration.

The festival, which also serves as a pregame for the Blue and White Spring Football Game, will include:

-Tripp, a rock/powerpop/alternative band based in Chapel Hill;

-Brett Harris, an indie/pop/rock artist from Durham;

-SWASO, a rock/ pop band from Carrboro;

-Supatight, a funk/reggae group based in Durham.

Additional performers might be confirmed later this week, said Megan Maher, co-chairwoman for the event.

Other attractions will include a magician, caricature artist, tie-dye booth, food, inflatables and an opportunity to get painted up before the Blue and White Spring Football Game.

The game will be between next year’s offensive and defensive squads and will provide a preview of next year’s team. ESPN will televise the game.

The $9,000 required for funding the stage and publicity for SpringFest is being provided by the Carolina Union Activities Board.

Individual student groups will provide funding for their own booths at the event.

Tickets will also be sold for the inaugural GenerAction Service Week celebration to be held the following day.

The outdoor event will feature Sean Kingston, and will cap off a week of service events leading up to the concert.
