A disturbance in Davis Library shortly after 1 p.m. led to a ruckus in the Pit and the arrests of two Hillsborough teens.

The two men were placed under arrest outside of Davis Library after UNC's Department of Public Safety received a complaint, officials said.

One young man was charged with violating parole, while the other is suspected of being in possession of stolen property.

DPS received a complaint from Davis that the men were disturbing people in the library, said DPS Spokesman Randy Young.

After being asked to leave, one of the men was identified as violating parole, at which point DPS officers cuffed him on the ground between Lenoir Dining Hall and the Student Union.

Onlookers, eating lunch in the Pit, went silent as officers appeared to struggle with the suspect, yelling at him to stay down, witnesses said.

The other man, also high-school aged, was arrested for possession of stolen property, Young said.

"It's suspected they'd been going around and receiving property from inside the library," Young said.

Police did not release the suspects' names.
