Russ Harris has been awarded UNC’s 15th annual John Atkinson Ferrell Prize and Lectureship.

Harris will deliver a lecture on May 12 at the Carolina Club in the George Watts Hill Alumni Center for his lectureship. His lecture, titled “Individual and Population Approaches to Improving the Health of the Public: How Much Do They Disagree?” will be hosted by the UNC Preventive Medicine Residency.

Harris is a professor in the School of Medicine, an adjunct professor of epidemiology in Gillings School of Global Public Health and serves as director of the public health school’s health care and prevention concentration.

Harris’ expertise lies in cancer screening, clinical preventative services and teaching population health.

John Ferrell, who the prize is named for, received medical degrees from UNC in the early 1900s. He went on to a career in public health. The prize has been endowed by his and his daughters’ estates.
