The Daily Tar Heel

North Carolina beat Texas 3-0 in Monday’s elimination game to stay alive in the 2011 College World Series.

Freshman Kent Emanuel pitched a complete game, allowing just four hits and striking out five. It was the first complete game shutout in the College World Series since 2006.

Center fielder Ben Bunting led the Tar Heels with four hits and an RBI in five at-bats, and catcher Jacob Stallings put the Tar Heels on the board in the third inning with a two-RBI single.

Texas made two base-running errors early in the game, and the Longhorns never had runners past second base.

UNC will play the loser of tonight’s Vanderbilt-Florida matchup on Wednesday.
