Suntrust Bank in Chapel Hill robbed

Suntrust Bank at 1775 Dobbins Dr. was robbed at 2:22 p.m. Thursday, according to Chapel Hill police Sgt. Joshua Mecimore.

The banks alarm went off, and the alarm company reported the robbery to police, Mecimore said.

He said he did not know if the robber took any money. He said while he was not certain whether the man is still in the area, police are searching for him.

“We have officers in the area,” he said.

Mecimore said that the man was described as a white male in his thirties wearing a fake beard and driving a silver Volkswagen.

The man was in the bank alone, but police do not know if he was alone in his car, Mecimore said.
