Chapel Hill was recognized by the AAA of the Carolinas as a traffic safe community for the fifth year since 2004.
Fourteen other North Carolina communities received the award.
Winners were determined depending on their crash statistics, number of law enforcement officers per capita and the presence of a formal traffic safety program that holds year-round traffic safety initiatives.
