Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education sent a letter last week to the chairman of the N.C. State Board of Education asking that the board reject the application for a new elementary charter school in Chapel Hill.
The letter stated that based on its business model, the Lee Scholars School would tend to reduce the resources available to underserved students who might attend the school.
The letter also stated the charter school would negatively impact the school district’s budget, which could hurt the district’s initiatives to address problems like the achievement gap.
