UNC School of Medicine researchers have found that a high-fiber diet increases the rise of developing diverticulosis, contradicting the widely held belief that this diet lowers the risk.
Diverticulosis is a disease of the large intestine in which pouches develop in the colon wall. It affects about one-third of adults older than 60.
The study also found that constipation does not increase a person’s risk of the disease, contrary to another popular belief.
