Barbara “Bebe” Smith was recently named the 2012 Social Worker of the Year by the National Association of Social Workers’ North Carolina chapter.
Smith is a co-director of the UNC Center for Excellence in Community Mental Health and a clinical assistant professor in the department of psychiatry.
Her career has been focused on helping individuals living with mental health issues, and she has directed and worked with the Schizophrenia Treatment Evaluation Program (STEP) and many other programs.
Smith will receive her award March 1 at the NASW-NC Annual Ethics Conference and Awards Luncheon in Raleigh.
