Two Chapel Hill leaders in their late 90’s pass away

Zora Rose Rashkis died at age 98 Tuesday morning at the Dubose Health Care Center in Chapel Hill.
Rashkis moved to Chapel Hill in the 1960s and began a nearly 20-year teaching career, retiring in July 1979.

An elementary school in Meadowmont was named for the Rashkis’ to honor their work with the public school system.

Rashkis’ funeral service was held yesterday at 11 a.m. at Judea Reform Congregation Cemetery.

Robert Peck, 97, passed away Saturday at the DuBose Health Center.

Peck traveled to Chapel Hill to study engineering at UNC and was a member of the last class in the School of Engineering. He later returned to serve as Chapel Hill’s town manager.

He was a Chapel Hill resident until his death.
