The Daily Tar Heel

Two UNC neuroscience professors received a $2 million award to research the causes of cognitive disabilities. Professors Dr. William Snider, and Benjamin Philpot, PhD, will use the five-year grant to focus on the pathway in the brain that regulates the expression of autism-linked genes.

Snider said they plan to study the pathway in the developing brains of mice to see the effects in postnatal animals. The ability to manipulate this pathway might open up the possibility of new treatment strategies, he said.
