Amendment One, a proposed amendment to the North Carolina state constitution that would make marriage between a man and a woman the only form of recognized union in the state, is expected to pass today.
Public Policy Polling, a left-leaning polling firm based in Raleigh, projects in its latest poll that the amendment will pass by a 55-39 margin.
“Opponents of the amendment had an uphill battle in convincing voters that it was anything other than a referendum on gay marriage, even though it does go a lot further than that,” the firm’s website states.
