Chapel Hill police arrested Denis Dion Smith, of 509 Englewood Ave., in Durham in connection with a strong armed robbery that occurred outside the Wells Fargo Bank on Banks Drive at 1:10 p.m. Tuesday.

Police believe Smith grabbed a bank bag from the victim and fled the scene in a gray sedan.

After a brief foot pursuit, police were able to apprehend Smith.

Smith has been charged with common law robbery, felony possession of stolen goods, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, felony possession of cocaine, felony larceny and misdemeanor hit and run, among other charges.

Smith is being held in the Orange County Jail under a $100,000 secured bond.
