Dr. Oliver Smithies, a distinguished professor in the Department of Cell Biology and Physiology, was named a member of the first class of the fellows of the American Association for Cancer Research Academy.
Smithies will join 106 other scientists from throughout the nation who specialize in cancer research as the first group to receive the honor.
He was inducted into the academy based on his research with gene targeting.
