Downed trees and power outages have been reported across Chapel Hill following a powerful thunderstorm.

As of 7:30 p.m., 2,689 Duke Energy customers in Orange County have reported power outages. Duke Energy currently has no information on when customers in the area can expect to regain power, but a representative of the company said that information will likely become available later in the evening.

The storm also downed several trees in Chapel Hill and on UNC’s campus. Trees fell into the road on parts of Franklin Street, Rosemary Street and South Road among other streets, causing traffic delays.

Though the National Weather Service thunderstorm warning for Orange County has expired, eastern areas of North Carolina remain in the storm’s path.
