A construction worker at the Shortbread Lofts construction site slipped and fell about 10 feet Wednesday, according to a press release from the Chapel Hill Fire Department.

He fell from a concrete pillar onto the top floor of the construction site, according to the press release.

The man hit his head when he fell and the site’s foreman thought it would be best to transport the worker to the hospital, said Larry Short, the site’s developer.

“Whenever someone bumps their head, you want to strap them down and transport them,” he said.

Short said the man was walking around and talking before he was transported.

About 25 emergency vehicles responded to the site.

“All of the activity was mostly precautionary,” Short said.

The Chapel Hill Fire Department removed the man from the site using an extension ladder from one of its trucks. The stairwells would not properly accomodate the emergency workers and their equipment, Short said.
