The face of University Mall is soon expected to change. The mall’s anchor store, Dillard’s, will convert its location in the mall into a clearance center for its unsold merchandise.
Peter De Leon, general manager of the mall, said the clearance center would help the mall attract more customers.
De Leon would not comment on when the clearance store would debut at the mall or on what retail the store would contain.
Dillard’s shopper Joyce Galaverna was aware something was happening when she saw the signs advertising sales but wasn’t sure what.
“I thought if they were closing, I would have heard something,” she said.
Julie Bull, director of investor relations for Dillard’s, did not respond to multiple calls for comment. The store’s assistant manager also refused to comment.
The Dillard’s clearance center will be the second discount store in University Mall. Roses, a subsidiary of Variety Wholesalers Inc., also has a location at the mall and sells a variety of products at marked-down prices.
De Leon said a clearance center would benefit the mall.
“(It would be a) wonderful shopping experience — bringing lots of traffic to the mall.”
