“IP3 is the place to be.”
It’s no wonder this quote appears on IP3’s website, because Tar Heels have been choosing this classic spot for their pizza needs since 1980, which is why it won the 2021 Carolina’s Finest award for best pizza. Brothers and owners Angelo and Vincenzo Marrone know how to serve up the perfect slice.
With the stiff competition for pizza on Franklin Street, there has to be a good reason for a spot to stay open for 40 years – and Italian Pizzeria III has done exactly that. Vincenzo Marrone, one of the brothers who own IP3, credits their recipes and high quality products for their success.
“We are the oldest pizzeria in town,” Marrone said. “We won best pizza in Chapel Hill because everything we serve we make from scratch.”
With fresh dough made daily and an extensive list of toppings like pepperoni, sausage, fresh spinach, tomato, bacon, mushrooms, green peppers, olives and onions, IP3 is the place to go for your pizza fix.
UNC juniors – and twins – Georgia and Hunter Burkard consider themselves pizza connoisseurs. New York natives, the Burkards came to Chapel Hill looking for pizza that met their high standards.
Now, Hunter Burkard visits IP3 once or twice a week.
“When I came to UNC, I wanted to find a place that replicated my experience at home: great ingredients, friendly customer service and delicious pizza,” Hunter said. “I probably have IP3 once or twice a week. I order my usual two cheese slices and two garlic knots, and they deliver a truly remarkable experience every time. Chapel Hill wouldn’t be the same without IP3.”
“IP3 is hands down the best slice of pizza in town,” Georgia Burkard said. “Since coming down to Chapel Hill from New York, IP3 is the only pizza place that I have found that meets the standards of a quality New York-style slice.”
IP3 offers takeout and delivery through Doordash and Grubhub, as well as catering services for your next event. Come for lunch specials like two slices of cheese pizza for $6 and a free soda, or enjoy a large cheese pizza and a pitcher of beer for $18.99 every Sunday and Tuesday.
“Thank you for all these years of support,” Vincenzo Marrone said. “Keep coming back and we will provide great quality food.”
