New Student Convocation postponed, FallFest canceled due to inclement weather

FallFest 2017

Students gather on Hooker Fields for FallFest in 2017.

New Student Convocation has been postponed and FallFest has been canceled due to forecasted severe inclement weather Sunday evening.

New Student Convocation — an event for first-years, sophomores and transfer students —  will now be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Kenan Stadium, according to a campus announcement from Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz's office. The event was originally scheduled for Sunday.

FallFest, which was originally scheduled to follow Convocation, has been canceled. Hosted by the Carolina Union, the event gives students an opportunity to learn about student organizations at UNC. The University plans to incorporate FallFest into SmallFest programming later this month.

SmallFest will be held Aug. 23 to Aug. 27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in The Pit.

The University plans to continue monitoring weather and will send warnings through Alert Carolina.
