Carolina Creates Music to hold concert Thursday

Carolina Creates Music has the perfect kickoff to Labor Day weekend.

The organization is hosting a concert in the Forest Theatre complete with delicious food and good music today from 5 to 8 p.m.

David August, a co-director of Carolina Creates Music, invites everyone to a perfect getaway for a lazy afternoon as the week winds down.

The concert will explore four different styles ranging from folk to rap.

“The diverse genre choice was intentional, because we want to connect all types of music together,” August said.

Charlotte Parrott will open the concert with a few of her original songs. Parrott has made a name for herself on campus with her guitar-driven folk pop music, and has performed in the Union and the Local 506.

Corey Bax, a member of Campfires and Constellations, describes his group as a “blend of folk, old-time country and rock n’roll into a distinct style of Americana music.”

Campfires and Constellations will be followed by hip-hop group No9to5.

JSWISS, from No9to5, said this is the first time a hip-hop group has performed at the Forest Theatre.

“I feel like we are doing something special,” he said.

JSWISS described No9to5 as a group that cares equally about their lyrics and music.

“We vibe off of each other’s energy,” JSWISS said.

Of Thieves and Fiends is a new ska group that will round out the list of performers.

Of Thieves and Fiends’ guitarist, Chris Vercauteren, describes this three-piece rock/reggae band from Charlotte as explosive.

August believes that Carolina Creates has found the perfect formula combining genres and a great location. He hopes to make this concert a semi-annual event.

“I believe that as more people come to experience it, it will become a staple of the UNC experience,” August said.
