Music News Monday: Feb 15-22

 Animal Collective to Take Over Guggenheim Museum

1. Chapel Hill's Trekky Records will curate a day of N.C. music at March's South By Southwest Festival in Austin. The Carolina Jubilee, co-sponsored by Merge Records, Holidays For Quince and 307 Knox, will be an afternoon-long display of what the state's bands have to offer. The details are as follows:

2. Gayngs, the collaboration of Megafaun, members of the Rosebuds and Bon Iver, as well as a dozen other musicians, is set to release its first LP on May 11. Mixing a collection of “psychedelic” elements, the project that originally began as a sort of joke will finally come to fruition. Indiana label Jagjaguwar will be releasing the album.

3. Animal Collective will be taking over the Guggenheim Museum on March 4 with a new piece called Transverse Temporal Gyrus. In collaboration with Danny Perez, this exhibition will include music, costumes, props and visuals that create a “kinetic, psychedelic environment” out of the museum.

4. It was announced that Lil Wayne’s jail date was moved because of emergency dental surgery; however it wasn’t revealed just how extensive this procedure was going to be. After eight root canals and eight hours of surgery, Wayne’s mouth is finally in ship shape. Additionally Wayne received some implants and touch ups of his diamond encrusted teeth.  With just a a few weeks left before he heads to prison, he will for sure spend most of his time recovering.

5. Everyone’s favorite daughter of grunge is back. After nearly a decade, Courtney Love and a reconstructed Hole will release a comeback album on April 27. Along with new faces and old collaborators, Love is finally moving forward with the project, after previously not wanting to reunite with the original members. Additionally, Hole is rumored to appear at this year’s SXSW festival.
