With Microsoft’s help, Nokia kicked off a busy tech September by introducing the Lumia 920, the first top-of-the-line Windows Phone 8 device this morning.

Amid reports and confirmations that Apple, Motorola, Amazon and HTC will be debuting new devices of their own this month, Nokia and Microsoft announced their Windows Phone 8 flagship in New York City. The Lumia 920 features a 4.5 inch HD display, a dual-core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon CPU, an eight megapixel camera capable of shooting video in 1080p, a 2000 mAh battery and wireless charging built into the device. Also included is what Nokia calls “Super Sensitive Touch,” which enables the phone to recognize touch by gloved or mittened hands.

The Lumia 920, when it ships later this year, will come in LTE and HPUSA versions, allowing it to be sold on the major carriers. It will also be available in a plethora of colors, including yellow, gray, white, black and red.

Nokia and Microsoft also showed off the Lumia 820, a midrange phone. The lower priced model has a 4.3 inch screen and the same processor found in the 920. With this model, wireless charging is not included out of the box, but owners can buy a compatible backplate sold by Nokia to gain this functionality.

Investors were not impressed by the Lumia 920’s debut. As of this writing, Nokia’s share price was $2.51, down 32 cents from today’s opening.
