Kids gathered on Saturdays for five weeks at Kidzu Children’s Museum on Franklin Street and lent a hand toward a group art project, inspired by French artist Niki de Saint-Phalle. After creating the beginning structure, then adding papier-mache, much painting and many mosaic decorations, the children finally completed their frog prince this week.

Take a stroll down West Franklin Street into the heart of this independent town. Sip a coffee at Open Eye Café, relax on the lawn of Weaver Street Market and explore the vibrant shops, houses and people.

Reality Ministries is a Christian organization in Durham with the stated mission of providing a safe and loving environment for community members who have been disenfranchised due to poverty, violence or lack of opportunity — for example orphans, foster children and people in jail. The ministry extends to people with special needs. On Saturday night, Reality Ministries hosted a “Kings and Queens” prom where teens and adults with various mental and physical disabilities were given the “royal treatment.” More than 100 volunteers attended the event and paired up with a friend with disabilities for the evening.
