Gone Baby Gone
4 stars
Ben Affleck finally impresses an audience by directing, rather than acting, in "Gone Baby Gone."
He succeeds at creating a crime drama without needing a breakneck pace to keep the audience's attention.
The story takes place in inner-city Boston, where private-eye Patrick Kenzie (Casey Affleck) and his girlfriend/business partner Angie Gennaro (Michelle Monaghan) take on a high-profile missing-child case.
The film succeeds especially in two areas.
First, Ben Affleck presents a gritty portrayal of a working-class Boston downtown.

The Blakes
The Blakes
garage rock
3.5 stars
Ready-to-party garage rock is what The Blakes are all about.
It's a simple formula centered on not taking anything too seriously and remembering why you started a rock band in the first place: picking up good times and chicks.
On the band's self-titled debut, the licks come out fast, with Snow Kiem's vocals displaying a range that spans from gravelly scream to gravelly whisper.
That's not a bad thing.
