Larry Conrad, vice chancellor for information technology and chief information officer at UNC, stands in the main control room for information technology services at ITS Manning. He will leave his post of five years in February for UC Berkeley. Conrad said his days are full of meetings to solve the difficult problems in UNC's technology systems. He said he and his team's job is to work behind the scenes to make everything run smoothly so no one ever realizes a problem. He said he never planned for a job like this, but one job lead to another. Conrad said he realized that things and technology were easier to work with and solve problems with, but it took people to make those things work. And that's why he's still at the job. "I am one of 400 employees making the UNC technology systems work, but at the end of the day, it's the 399 other employees who really run the place."
