Police Make 2nd Arrest in Postgame Vandalism

Chapel Hill police have arrested a second UNC student in connection with vandalism that occurred on Franklin Street after the North Carolina-Duke basketball game.Robert Houston Davenport III, 18, turned himself in to police Monday. Davenport, who lives at 609 Morrison Residence Hall, is being charged with one count of felony rioting.

Forum Addresses Transportation Needs

Several N.C. officials, including local legislators, discussed the future of transportation in the state before a small lunchtime crowd Monday at the UNC School of Law.The event was the first in a series of 21st Century North Carolina Forums sponsored by the Sanford Society, a student organization that promotes progressive public policies.Jamie Cox, Sanford Society president, said the forum's purpose was to discuss how transportation must change to meet the state's new needs.

Changes Proposed for N.C. Marriage Laws

Several N.C. marriage laws, which have not been reformed since 1903, could soon become part of history.The proposed changes would recognize marriages of different races and also close a legal loophole sometimes used to defend statutory rape. According to current statutes, neither Muslim nor American Indian marriages performed in their faith are legally recognized by the state.
