Take Note: Have your lunch break with LunchMoney Lewis

Take Note

Take Note is a spotlight series that features music artists that are arguably not mainstream enough and deserve your attention. Last semester we featured Jon Bellion and Beta Radio. Now, we bring you the upbeat, modern funk of LunchMoney Lewis.

Who: Gamal “LunchMoney” Lewis

LunchMoney gained his nickname in his teenage years, but was born with access to music producers like Lil Wayne and Flo Rida. Having a father and an uncle with experience on the music scene, through their recording studio Circle House, LunchMoney would eventually appear on Nicki Minaj’s 2014 album The Pinkprint

In 2015 his single “Bills” exploded into the airwaves and since then he’s had several singles double-dipping in the rock and funk genres that have been listened to by an average of 2.5 million Spotify users per month. His style is similar to that of Cee Lo Green, but better in my opinion.

Appearing in Madden NFL 16 and on One Direction’s 2015 EP Perfect, LunchMoney is apparently doing well enough for a newfound artist to afford lunch.

Why should we become earbuds?

It’s hard to find an artist nowadays with consistently good quality throughout each song. Although he’s only released singles and a small EP since his 2015 recognition, there have been rumors of a larger project, maybe an album, to be released in the upcoming year or so.

Apart from the funky, soul-tapping, feel-good tunes of LunchMoney, you should definitely give him a peep for his lyrical tastes. He’s offering a nice change from other top music artists that center their work on sex, drugs, and money. His vibes are catchy to say the least. A refreshing change, lyrically and musically, to say the most.
