Roy Williams has been the head coach for North Carolina basketball since 2003. He has won two national championships in 2005 and 2009. At the time he was hired, North Carolina hadn’t won a national title in 10 years and had missed two straight NCAA tournaments.
Williams arrived at UNC after serving as head coach at Kansas for 15 years. He has coached a number of players who went on to play in the NBA, including Paul Pierce, Ty Lawson and Raymond Felton. Williams was enshrined in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007.
Entering his 13th season at UNC, Williams has a 332-101 records as the head coach at North Carolina. He has been to seven Final Fours in his career. He also reached 700 career wins in fewer season than anyone else in NCAA history.
