Sylvia Hatchell credits Blood Donation Center for 20 years of saving lives

Four years ago, on October 9, 2013, UNC Women’s Basketball Head Coach Sylvia Hatchell was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. Today, Coach Hatchell has won the battle against leukemia and is thrilled to say she is 100% healthy. Who does Coach Hatchell credit for her victory? The UNC Blood Donation Center.


UNC Hospitals

UNC Hospitals is a 803-bed facility that serves more than 37,000 people in the Southeast every year. It houses the N.C. Children’s Hospital as well as the N.C. Women’s Hospital. In addition to that, the hospital offers specialized patient care services such as the Diabetes Care Center, the Rehabilitation Center, the Comprehensive Transplant Center and more. UNC houses the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of 40 National Cancer Institute-designated centers in the United States.

Roc Solid helps bring play to UNC Hospitals

Two first-years want to take advantage of having UNC Hospitals on campus. Kerry Doyle and Justin Kiser have decided to found the Roc Solid Carolina Club, an organization that provides services for children with cancer.


Vets join physician assistant program

Although UNC Hospitals’ new physician assistant program doesn’t exclusively accept veterans, it has a specific focus on providing a civil education to those who have served in the military.
