Marche Strickland scored 15 points, and Deedee Warley added 13 for the Terrapins (10-11, 3-7). The Tar Heels dominated the inside game, outscoring Maryland 30-14 in the paint.
North Carolina led 58-48 midway through the second half before Maryland cut the lead to 58-53 on Terri Daniels' 3-pointer with 6:14 left.
But the Tar Heels put the game away by scoring the next eight points.
