All-American Quinn Takes 10th at NCAAs

The UNC junior received All-American honors for the second time and took 10th in the 200-yard breaststroke.

Quinn took 10th place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1 minute, 57.02 seconds, and also finished 34th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 55.67.

The Tar Heels scored seven points and finished 31st at the NCAAs. Texas won the title, edging Stanford 512-501.

On Thursday, UNC sophomore Yuri Suguiyama cut four seconds off his time at the ACC Championships, finishing 23rd in the 500 freestyle Thursday with a time of 4:24.01, a second off his personal best.

Women's Tennis Tops Seminoles

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The No. 7 North Carolina women's tennis team defeated 50th-ranked Florida State 6-1 in ACC action Saturday.

The Tar Heels improved to 14-3 overall and 3-1 in ACC play and extended their win streak to seven matches.

All-Americans Marlene Mejia and Kate Pinchbeck led the way against the Seminoles, with Mejia defeating Florida State's Anca Dumitrescu 6-4, 6-3, and Pinchbeck running her personal win streak to 17 matches with a 6-0, 6-2 win against Alida Gallovits.

Tar Heel Tracksters Qualify for NCAAs

RALEIGH -- The North Carolina track team wrapped up competition at the Raleigh Relays with another strong performance.

Ibiene Bilaye-Benibo set a UNC record in the hammer with a toss of 183 feet, four inches, and Laura Gerraughty finished fourth with a throw of 182-08.

Gerraughty also qualified for the NCAA Championships with a second-place shot put distance of 53-11. Bilaye-Benibo finished fourth in the shot put at 48-11, a NCAA provisional mark.

For the men, shotputters Ian Douglas and Vikas Gowda finished second and fourth with throws of 55-11 and 55-02, respectively, while Sal Gigante took third in the hammer with a throw of 199-10.

In the women's 3000-meter steeplechase, UNC's Liz Awtrey set a school record and a provisional NCAA time time of 10 minutes, 35.45 seconds.
