NCCC Offers Students Opportunity to Help Regulate Firearms

Looking for a group to quench your activist thirsts? Look no further! Join the North Carolina Consumer's Council. Students can join at a reduced rate, and every new member is eligible for lifetime membership into the Coastal Federal Credit Union, which offers competitive rates for loans, savings and checking accounts.

Currently, the council is involved in attempting to regulate firearms in North Carolina as consumer products. We support the Firearms Safety and Consumer Protection Act, which would reduce access to guns by criminals and children, protect gun consumers from defectively manufactured guns, decrease gun death and injury by identifying firearms that are exceptionally likely to be used in homicides, suicides and unintentional shootings -- and restrict availability of such weapons.

We're also involved with the Environmental Protection Agency's efforts to promote Energy Star products. These products, which include computers, various appliances, televisions, light bulbs, etc., are identified by the Energy Star label. The products not only save consumers money but they also help protect the environment by conserving energy.

The N.C. Consumer's Council is a statewide, nonprofit organization consisting of individuals interested in the challenges facing consumers in the marketplace and in government. Our mission is to both educate and advocate on consumer issues.
