Mock to Take Helm as Wrestling Coach in 2003

Mock, a 1982 UNC graduate, will assume the head coaching duties at the conclusion of the 2002-03 season when Bill Lam retires. Lam, who has won 14 ACC championships, will coach his 30th and final season with UNC in 2002-03.

Mock is in his third year as an assistant coach at UNC. In 1982, he became the Tar Heels' first NCAA wrestling champion (at 134 pounds) on a team that finished fifth in the NCAA tournament. Mock finished that season with an unbeaten and untied 35-0 record. Mock became UNC's first NCAA champion in 1982.

The Holland, Pa., native won three ACC titles while at UNC and was a two-time All-America. He had a career record of 108-9. Mock was awarded the Patterson Medal, an honor given to the UNC senior student-athlete demonstrating overall athletic excellence. He was named one of the ACC's All-Time 50 Greatest Wrestlers.

Women's Golf Nabs Seventh Place

DESTIN, Fla. -- The North Carolina women's golf team finished seventh at the Chrysler ACC/SEC Challenge on Sunday. UNC shot a team score of 300 in the third and final round for a three-day total of 909.

Ashley Prange of UNC finished tied for fourth with Wake Forest's Nuria Clau and Florida's Jeanne Cho. The trio finished at 218, four behind the leader.

UNC's junior transfer Meaghan Francella shot a one-under 70 to move into a tie for 12th with a 223 total. Tar Heel seniors Meghan Adams and Abby Spector each finished tied for 43rd at 234; Adams posted a 78 Sunday, while Spector shot 85. Stacy Hilton carded an 86 Sunday and tied for 60th with 249 total.

Men's Golf Finishes 7th in Tourney

ROCKY FACE, Ga. -- The North Carolina men's golf team finished the Carpet Capital Collegiate in seventh place. UNC posted a team score of 284 in Sunday's third round to move up four places and end with a 869 three-day total.

UNC's Dustin Bray shot a five-under-par 67 Sunday, the lowest individual score of the third round. The round moved Bray into a tie for eighth place with a 212 total. Kevin Silva carded a 69 and finished the tournament tied for 16th with a 214. Ramon Bescansa posted a third-round 74 and ended up tied for 36th with a 220 total. Jeremy Elliott shot a 74 Sunday, and finished the event tied for 52nd at 223. Bob Cherry ended the tournament in 85th place at 234, after firing a third-round 77.
