GAINESVILLE, Ga. -- North Carolina's novice rowers took the top two spots in the women's novice eight collegiate/club race Saturday at the Head of the Hooch regatta on Lake Lanier. Racing in a field of 41 boats, UNC's A boat won in 21:24.3 and the Tar Heels' B boat came in second in 21:38.7.

Men's Tennis Wins Singles Titles
Andy Metzler and Derrick Porter captured singles titles Sunday morning at the Josephine Groot Memorial Invitational at the Cone-Kenfield Indoor Tennis Center. The Tar Heels advanced four of five players competing in this weekend's tournament to the finals of their respective singles flights.
Metzler headlined the day with a rugged 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5) victory against Elon's Ter Malasitt. Metzler's victory was his third tournament title in his one and a half seasons at North Carolina. He has posted an impressive 20-7 singles record in tournament play during that period.
Playing in only the second tournament of his career, Porter captured his first singles title. The Coral Springs, Fla., defeated teammate Jonathan Janda 6-0, 6-3.
The final UNC player involved in action Sunday, Ben Aiken, fell short in his bid to make the tournament a clean sweep for the Tar Heels in singles.
Aiken wrapped up his most successful fall campaign as a Tar Heel by teaming with Janda to finish fifth in the doubles draw. Aiken and Janda defeated Charlotte's Jess Rutledge and Jean Michel Werk 8-2.
