Pinchbeck Advances to 2nd Round

Meniane Wins

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas -- Trystan Meniane of the North Carolina men's tennis team won his first round match in the 2002 Omni Hotels National Indoor Championships on Thursday at the Brookhaven Country Club.

Meniane defeated the No. 7 seed, Rameez Junaid of Auburn, in the Round of 32 to advance to the second round to play Roger Anderson of Georgia Tech.

Tarpley Tapped as 2002 ACC Rookie

North Carolina women's soccer freshman Lindsay Tarpley was named 2002 ACC Rookie of the Year. Tarpley leads the conference this year in assists per game at .71, is second in the conference in points per game at 2 and fourth in the league in goals per game with .65. Tarpley is the first Tar Heel to be named the ACC Rookie of the Year since 1996 when Laurie Schwoy was chosen.

UNC placed two on the first-team All-ACC first team and three on the second-team.

Defender Catherine Reddick and midfielder Lindsay Tarpley were both named first-team All-ACC, while goalkeeper Jenni Branam, defender Leslie Gaston and forward Alyssa Ramsey were named second-team all-conference.
