Women's basketball team vaults to No. 2 in AP poll
For the first time in the history of UNC women's basketball, the Tar Heels (5-0) have risen as high as No. 2 in The Associated Press' poll.
After a 71-65 victory against defending national champion Connecticut on Nov. 20, the Tar Heels moved to fifth, which was the team's highest ranking since 1998.
But North Carolina's wins last weekend coupled with losses by former No. 1 Tennessee, No. 3 Georgia and No. 4 Texas helped the Tar Heels climb in the poll released Monday.
Louisiana State (6-0), formerly second in the rankings, now holds the top spot, receiving 42 of 44 first-place votes. UNC is followed by Notre Dame (6-0), Tennessee (4-1) and Stanford (4-0) to round out the top five.
