The Daily Tar Heel

An elite finish

For just the third time in school history, the North Carolina women's basketball team reached the Elite Eight in March. Pressure defense carried the Tar Heels into the round with a 17-game winning streak. But the top-seeded Tar Heels fell short in their national title run with a 72-63 loss to the No. 2 seed Baylor.

North Carolina (30-4, 12-2 in the ACC) earned the No.4 ranking in the final standings.

Led by sophomore guard Ivory Latta (left), the Tar Heels ended Duke's dominance of the ACC, defeating the Blue Devils in all three of their matchups. After the two teams shared the ACC regular season title, the Tar Heels claimed the conference tournament championship.

Latta was named ACC Tournament MVP. She was joined on the all-tournament first team by sophomore Camille Little and senior Nikita Bell, and freshman Erlana Larkins was named to the second team.

UNC was undefeated at home with 17 victories in Chapel Hill, the most homecourt wins in school history. In February, Coach Sylvia Hatchell earned her 400th victory at North Carolina.
