April 25 - Courtney Bumpers captured the 2005 NCAA Gymnastics Championship title in the floor exercise by notching a perfect score. The junior defeated her 2005 co-champion, Alabama's Ashley Miles. Bumpers, who was ranked 68th in the nation heading into the event, was named first-team All-America for the third time in her career.
The North Carolina women's gymnastics team took first at the East Atlantic Gymnastics League Championships for the first time since 2002. The Tar Heels finished in third place at the NCAA Regionals.
