THURSDAY SEPT. 11 11:13 p.m. NEW BRUNSWICK N.J. -North Carolina made the most of a prime-time TV slot Thursday by shellacking Rutgers 44-12. UNC's defense kept the Scarlet Knights out of the end zone until the fourth quarter while drawing four interceptions out of fifth-year senior quarterback Mike Teel.
Brandon Tate and Hakeem Nicks had two touchdowns each to lead the Tar Heels. The win was the Tar Heels' first outside of the state of North Carolina since a 2002 win against Arizona State.
