1 P.M. TUESDAY NOV. 4 — Chapel Hill police charged the driver of the bus that hit and killed a pedestrian on South Columbia Street with misdemeanor death by vehicle today.
James Willie Orr65 also was fired by the town of Chapel Hill after an internal investigation according to a statement from Town Manager Roger Stancil released today.
Orr is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 12 2009.
Valerie Hughes33 was struck Oct. 28 while in the crosswalk of South Columbia Street and Mason Farm Road. Hughes had worked as a UNC Hospitals radiology imaging specialist since November 2007.
