The Daily Tar Heel

Article should’ve focused on rivalry, not team’s woes

TO THE EDITOR:

I was very disappointed to see the big front page headline of The Daily Tar Heel yesterday (“Fall from grace,” Jan. 26). On a night of a big rivalry game, instead of an article on the front page previewing the big matchup, the paper decided to focus on the negative.

The entire article was based on the basketball team’s decline in the Associated Press rankings.

Too much emphasis is being placed on this poll by saying that the team has fallen from grace. The AP rankings are only a weekly power ranking, and there is plenty of basketball yet to be played before the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee meets.

The N.C. State basketball game could go a long way in letting our young team gain the confidence it so badly needs before the critical February and March games.

At a time when the basketball team should be getting support from the student body, they instead have to read the student newspaper headline “FALL FROM GRACE.” Talk about motivation.
