Urging release of video only serves selfish interest

 TO THE EDITOR:

I note from your editorial, “Release SBI report,” (Dec. 8), that you are urging Judge Bradford Long to release the video of the interaction between Courtland Smith and the police.

Knowing full well that the family has opposed the release, I am startled by the interest that you and other media outlets are showing in this case.

If the family is not pressing the matter further, then why should you? Despite your protestations, this is not about trust in local law enforcement and it is most certainly not about the grieving and healing process.

This is about the media’s prurient interest in attracting eyeballs to its content, and you should take a good long hard look at what you are seeking to accomplish.
