TO THE EDITOR:

After reading “Local NAACP protest CHCCS decision to add more honors classes,” (Feb.25) I was disappointed that the NAACP has not complained about increased funding to public universities.

Admittedly, colleges have recently faced budget cuts, but on average, colleges have received budget increases that are greater than inflation. The nationwide graduation rate for African Americans in college is 45 percent, while it is 65 percent for white students. Clearly the difference in graduation rates is because of the racism that is inherent in every university. But why stop at eliminating budget increases when these racist institutions could be closed down?

High schools are no better. Between 1972 and 2005, African-American high school students always had a higher dropout rate than white students. The NAACP should also oppose budget increases in all public high schools and possibly advocate the closure of high schools.

By continuing to follow the idea that “no student can fall behind if no student is allowed to get ahead,” the NAACP will be able to eliminate racism and increase the prosperity of America at the same time.
