TO THE EDITOR:

Tonight, more than 2,200 students and community members will come together to celebrate, remember and fight back against cancer. They have all chosen to participate in UNC Relay For Life, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.

While some statistics seem daunting, nearly 12 million cancer survivors living in the United States today show cancer can be beaten.

It takes our campus, our community and our generation to find a cure. It is now your opportunity to join the movement. We ask you to wage your own war against this disease and help us make cancer ancient history! Every lap you walk and every dollar you raise brings us closer to a world without cancer.

Come to the Belk Track and Eddie Smith Field House tonight at 6 p.m. and join in the 20-hour long celebration of our efforts.

We will join with survivors who have won their battle and remember those friends and loves ones we have lost to this disease.

Tonight’s celebration is not a race! It’s an overnight event jam-packed with entertainers, games, food and activities and is  sure to be UNC’s largest co-ed sleepover yet.

We are one campus, one world, one movement — all united by one hope for the cure. We have lost too many to cancer already, this is your chance to make a difference.

We all have a reason to Relay. We all have a reason to fight back. See you tonight at the track!
