The Daily Tar Heel

TO THE EDITOR:

The usual nations hostile to Israel have fomented worldwide anger because Israel seeks to prevent more weaponry from entering Gaza. This is bad timing as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was about to have a Washington meeting with President Barack Obama.

Why is there no world news mentioning that the Israeli Defense Forces boarded five of six boats without incident or deaths? When will the worldwide media acknowledge that the IHH (“Foundation for Human Rights and Freedoms and Humanitarian Relief”) is as hypocritically named as the hypocritical reactions to Israel’s attempts to survive.

The CIA, U.S. Treasury, Israeli intelligence and a 2006 Danish Institute for International Studies report Iranian ties to the IHH director and IHH affiliation with Hamas plus Islamic organizations linked to Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood and other global jihad networks.

(Former foreign service officer in Egypt and the region) Edward Peck, like other self-righteous critics, does not mention Egypt’s wall to keep Palestinians out nor Egypt’s offer to land the flotilla at port el-Arish when the IHH refused to use Israeli port Ashdod for cargo inspection.

The goal was to defy the long-publicly announced naval blockade, not simply to deliver humanitarian aid of food and medicine. Why did some participants bring young children with them?

America has cargo and baggage inspections. We try to keep out illegal drugs with border checkpoints and a wall. Israel should be able to exhibit similar protocols.
