The Daily Tar Heel

TO THE EDITOR:

Home schooling is extremely broad, contrary to what Orange County Board of Education member Brenda Stephens stated (“Setback for homeschoolers,” Sept. 16).

As an example of how broad home schooling is, do you know any public schooler who went on a three-day archaeological dig in North Carolina and who cleaned ancient Roman coins as part of school?

Even at 11 years old, I have participated in many different types of learning through classes with other homeschoolers, including classes about physics, chemistry, Shakespeare, The Iliad, The Odyssey, electronics, team sports, settling Mars archaeology, biology, art, algebra and foreign languages (Spanish, French and Japanese).

Narrow? You decide, but my views lie with it being broad.
