TO THE EDITOR:
This is in response to Darren Webber’s letter, “Davis came to UNC to win, not uphold integrity” (Oct. 5). I totally agree with Webber’s assertion that coach Davis came to UNC to win, regardless of whether he was able to uphold academic integrity. Likewise, I came to UNC to get the best grades I could, regardless of whether I have to cheat, lie, and steal to do so. I think the DTH severely underestimates the incredible importance of winning football games and potentially being a powerhouse in the ever-vulnerable ACC.
I mean, what would this institution be without annual invitations to the Meineke Car Care Bowl? The DTH would do well for itself to heed the teachings of Kenny Powers and place the proper amount of emphasis on winning. I’m ashamed to have a University newspaper more concerned with the academic integrity of our school than the success of our football team. I love football. Maybe if the editors of the DTH spend a little less time studying and a little more time watching “Eastbound and Down”, we’d have the responsible, focused staff that we deserve.
