TO THE EDITOR:

Last year, nearly 5,500 patients were cared for by St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a leading childhood cancer and illness research center.

This coming Sunday, Oct. 17, the brothers of Pi Kappa Phi and the ladies of Delta Delta Delta are hosting the Heels 4 Hope 5k Challenge, which benefits St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Push America and The Arc of Orange County. Your contributions will help to sustain and expand the impact of these nonprofits by changing the lives of children affected by cancer and helping people living with disabilities.

The race begins at 9 a.m. at the Bell Tower on South Road and takes participants by many of UNC’s beautiful landmarks. Chip timing will be provided for competitive runners, but we encourage everyone to run or walk at their own pace. In addition, Halloween costumes are welcome, as the holiday is right around the corner.

For more information about our race, beneficiaries or sponsors, feel free to visit www.heels4hope.com. Registration is $15 online, and $20 mail-in or on race day. Team registration is also available at a discounted rate. For those who will not be able to attend, but would still like to contribute, donations are welcome and can be accepted online or by mail. Checks should be made out to Heels 4 Hope.

Thank you for your interest, and we hope to see you on Sunday.
