The Daily Tar Heel

TO THE EDITOR:

I want to compliment all the gifted Daily Tar Heel writers, but particularly Sam Perkins, who wrote “Testing diversity by nixing race” on Nov. 11.

I would go a step further and nix the Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs (DMA) which, in this day and age, has become obsolete and a waste of money.

Before you rush to call me a racist, let me say that as a naturalized American citizen from Austria, I firmly believe that all children/students of illegal aliens have the same rights as I do. I am no better than they are, and they deserve citizenship ASAP. Shame on the politicians who don’t support common sense.

This is a nation built from individuals, not collectivist groups who use “multicultural” and “diversity” as a political movement to further their collectivist agenda. The two words mentioned are simply accurate descriptions of America. I have no party affiliation and have no political agenda, but these terms have done more to divide than to unify America.

Applaud the individual in our multicultural society, and for that we do not need a department to monitor our progress.

The human being is the smallest minority on earth.
