TO THE EDITOR:

Orange County citizens need to know that OWASA is planning extensive, long-term logging in the Cane Creek Watershed surrounding Cane Creek Reservoir.

This is the major source of water for Chapel Hill, Carrboro and the University. We need to prevent this travesty which will lead to degradation of our water supply and loss of old-growth forest and the habitat they provide.

In addition, the citizens of rural Orange County, who receive no services from OWASA, and have already sacrificed land and resources to eminent domain for construction of the reservoir, will again be sacrificing as massive logging takes place in their communities.

Plan to attend OWASA’s community meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. at the Maple View Agricultural Center on Dairyland Road. See directions, details of OWASA’s proposals, impacts on the community and what you can do to stop this at www.chapelhillwaterquality.com.
